Yule Tarot Spread

As we approach the midwinter solstice and the new year, many of us are reflecting on the year gone by. More so than any other year, I have heard people talk about what a hard year this has been and how happy they are to wave it goodbye. On a global level, it's quite clear why so many of us have struggled this year. It has been a pretty horrific year in many ways and there's no denying it. But many of the struggles people have shared with me have been on a personal level and some of the people I have spoken to still struggle with seeing a any light at the end of the tunnel.

Here's a little Yule-tide gift for you - A simple and concise tarot and angel card spread to help you face your challenges and give you hope. I have laid the cards out in the shape of a Christmas Tree. At the bottom of the tree, you see (from left to right) a message each from the ghosts of Christmases past, present and future. The ghost of Christmas Past wants to tell you of the major challenges you have overcome so far or an issue that is still lingering. The ghost of Christmas Present shows you the challenge you are currently facing and the ghost of Christmas future shows you a main theme you will be dealing with in the year ahead.

The two cards above show attitudes and approaches that won't (left) or will (right) work to meet your current challenge and take you to the next level and the star at the top of the tree (angel card) shows you what blessing of grace you can call on from Spirit to see you through the next 12 months.

The reading I did for myself using the Yule Tarot Spread:

Ghost of Christmas Past - 7 of Swords: Coming to terms with the fact that so much of life is 'politics' and choosing to maintain integrity instead of playing the game
Ghost of Christmas Present - Ace of Wands: My reward for choosing to act with inegrity... A free flow of creative energy
Ghost of Christmas Future - The Emperor: My future challenge is to harness the influx of creative energy and give it structure
What won't work - 6 of Pentacles: Doing stuff for free, teaching and not charging, spending more than I earn, poor investments of time, money and energy...
What will work - Knight of Wands: Doing something I believe in and not being afraid to accept any rewards due. Making a name for myself. Having fun and sharing that fun with others. Acting from the heart.

The way I see it, this reading is all about unhiding the light I have hid under a bushel for too long. I'm always encouraging others to follow their dreams and share their gifts with the world. This spread has just told me to unwrap the gift of me and start shining. Yeah, I'll be honest - It scares me. But that's not a valid excuse.

Star: The angel card shows me that I am allowed to enjoy the ecstasy of my creative fire and that I can draw on this for strength and hope at any time... This ecstasy is my true reward - not how my work is received. There are no politics or compromise involved in the creative process - I'm not writing for 'a market'... I'm writing for Spirit. The structure I need to get my work out is generated with my own resources. I am self-reliant, self-employed and moving on along the path of my calling.
