Friday Love Tarot Mabon/Libra Relationship Spread

Today it is the Autumn Equinox, also known as Mabon, in the Northern Hemisphere. This is coincides with the cusp of the sign of Libra, just like Ostara (the Spring Equinox) coincides with the cusp of Aries and the beginning of the zodiacal year. We are now halfway through the year and Mabon is a good time to pause, reflect and bring into balance that which may be off kilter.

Since Fridays are all about love and relationships here on Tarotize, I thought we would look at how to bring about more harmony within an existing relationship using a spread shaped like the scales of Libra.

I chose to work with the Lover's Path Tarot by Kris Waldherr and the Majors only deck the Star Tarot by Cathy McClelland.

Let's work from the bottom up:

The card at the bottom of the spread represents where the relationship is now and the card crossing it represents the current challenge to the relationship. The next card up is the near future, then the far future and at the top a Major Arcana card for the spiritual lesson that needs to be kept in mind for the relationship to progress.

Basically, this is a relationship that has burnt itself out (10 of Wands) and the challenge is to find the joy which brought these two together in the first place (9 of Cups). There was so much joy at one stage. Now there is only the bitter taste of ashes.

The near future card (5 of Pentacles) shows a woman struggling on her own, carrying a child in her arms and far future shows us the Myth of Orfeus and Eurydiche (trad. The Hanged Man) with a strong theme of sacrifice as implied also by the card title.

How apt it is then for the spiritual lesson to be contained by the energies of the Star card which reminds us that nothing is ever lost in the eyes of God and that there is always hope.

To the left we have the scale (three cards from the Lover's Path Tarot) that shows us what partner number one needs to bring into balance in the left and right hand cards, with the middle card showing us how this can be achieved. On top of this sits the energy that represents the main spiritual lesson for partner number one at this point in time.

The right hand scale mirrors the one on the left and represents what partner number two needs to bring into balance, how this can be achieved as well as his or her main spiritual lesson at this moment in time.

Using partner number one as example we see that this person needs to find a balance between his or her quest for love (The Lovers) and allowing something new to come into his or her life (Ace of Pentacles). Rather than forcing things here, partner number one can rely on good fortune to put things to rights (X Fortune). The Moon as the main spiritual lesson is also an indication that this person can remain fairly passive and roll with the tides. The future cards in the spread indicate that this person can seek help but what is due to happen is pretty much set in stone and will require a long period of waiting with the Sacrifice card in the far future.

Have fun figuring out what partner number two needs to bring into balance and how this could best be achieved!

Blessed Mabon!

i LOVE this spread! it feels really balanced, and something about it, the layout maybe, is so great ... that we have our own realms but also this overlapping middle area ... so helpful to separate THEIR stuff from MY stuff, and feels very compassionate as well! i love this spread too because i feel its good for all relationships, not just romantic ones ... had some really sweet readings from this whereas other spread b/c of their vertical progressive layout somehow create more anxiety about what do to/choices ...subtly. or maybe its because i have a lot of air signs in my chart and i love libra energy! thanks for re-posting this, this is such a great spread!
