4 of Cups Reversed - Healing Abandonment Issues

The 4 of Cups in the Legacy of the Divine Tarot stays true to the traditional Waite Smith imagery. A solitary man is leaning against a tree. He seems lost in thought (or fantasy) and doesn't notice the ethereal cups around him.

With all 4's a sense of stability is implied. However, Cups is Water (emotions, intuition) and water wants to flow. Apathy and ennui are often indicated when this card shows up. Stagnant water soon loses all its vivifying properties...

Those of you who have studied the Enneagram personality types won't have to force a fit with the Four personality and the 4 of Cups. The focus in both instances is on what is missing - a condition caused by childhood abandonment issues. This in turn leads to introspection and self-examination... or to complete escape into fantasy - far, far away from harsh reality.

With the reversal, a healing of the abandonment issues could be implied. More objectivity is brought in, the cycle of fear and escapism is broken, and the focus shifts to what is real and achievable rather on the greener grass on the other side of the fence.

The astrological correspondence for the 4 of Cups is Moon in Cancer. The following snippet from cafeastrology.com gives us an idea of what this implies:

"Moon in Cancer natives have a large potential to be able to get in touch with the feelings and moods of others. Often, they are quite wrapped up in themselves. Their memories of the past are outstanding, especially for all things emotional. Moon in Cancer people are never detached—they cling to things, their home, and people they care for. They seek out security and familiarity in all they do. They look for peace and quiet. Their attachment to all that is safe means they are a little leery of change..."

Questions to ask yourself: Am I looking with gratitude on my life circumstances and resources or am I focused on what is missing? Do I set achievable goals for myself or am I happier daydreaming about things that I can not see myself bringing into physical reality? Do I believe that others are more capable of realising their dreams and being successful than I am?

Affirmation: I am grateful for all my creations and the gift of being uniquely me. Anything I can dream, I can do. I set achievable goals for myself.
